Most vehicles imported from Japan to Australia enter via The Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS). The SEVS is an Australian Government import pathway that allows eligible vehicles not normally available through local dealerships to be imported and registered for road use in Australia.
Designed for unique, performance, luxury, environmentally advanced, and enthusiast-focused vehicles, SEVS gives Australians access to models that were never officially sold here.
To qualify, a vehicle must be listed on the SEVS Register and supported by an approved Model Report (MRE), which outlines how the vehicle will be modified to meet Australian Design Rules.
Each vehicle is then complied through a Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW) to ensure it meets all safety and regulatory standards before registration.
At JAPIMP, we manage the entire SEVS import process, from sourcing and purchasing in Japan through to shipping, compliance, and delivery, making it simple to own a vehicle that stands out from the crowd.
Vehicles that are 25 years old, or more can also be imported to Australia for road use.
